Mr. Charles B. Larsen has served in the Department of Industrial Technology
and Education, College of Engineering, at Utah State University for the past
15 years, with a prior term of 10 years from 1967 - 77. He completed his Master
of Industrial Education Degree in 1977. Mr. Larsen is currently and has served
as the Airframe and Powerplants FAA Part 147 School Curriculum Coordinator for
15 years where has has worked closely with the Federal Aviation Administration
(FAA). He has been involved in all phases of the FAA Part 147 curriculum and
has taken the leadership role in the Associate Degree Airframe and Powerplants
Program. Mr. Larsen has been responsible for writing, revising, and maintaining
the Approved School Curriculum Manual. He holds an FAA Inspection Authorization
and he is also a Designated Maintenance Examiner.
While at Utah State University, in addition to a full teaching assignment,
Mr. Larsen has been directly involved in many research and development projects.
Some of these include the design and manufacture of a remote sensing IR, Filtered
Video and Thermal Airborne System which he installed on a USU Seneca II aircraft
and also a Seneca II in Brazil for the Brazilian Government, a Low Apatura Radar
Airborne System installed on a Cessna 337, Lightening Strike research on Composite
Panels for INCO, inc., the development of a Lightening Strike Resistant Paint
System, the design and manufacture of Composite Prototype aircraft and the restoration
and rebuilding of many damaged aircraft. He obtained a USU Type Certificate
for UH-1H rotocraft and the Airworthiness Certificate for two USU owned UH-1H
rotorcraft.
In addition, he is an active member of the Aviation Technician Education Council
where he has served two three year terms on the National Board and has chaired
several Board Committees. He is presently the Director of Manufacturing for
the USU Wright Flyer composite aircraft project.
